Kitten Updates!

We were expecting a much smaller litter, so will probably have some availability once gender has been determined and our families have been matched with their kittens. Litter Robot

For those of you looking for a great automatic litter box... The only one I recommend is the Litter Robot. It is a bit pricey, but does a great job with keeping smells and litter box work to a minimum. It does look a bit like the "Death Star" from Star Wars, but it works great and is large enough for most Siberian cats. Unless you have multiple cats, you will probably only need to change the litter bag once or twice a week. I or other people I know had tried many of the other automatic litter boxes on the market, and we all think by far this is the best. One thing of note is that if you start your kitten with the Litter Robot, you will need to manually set it to run, as its sensors need for the cat/kitten to be about 5 pounds before running (about 3-5 months of age). These work well with your favorite clumping cat litter.

For all of you cat lovers who want to learn more about cats, I highly recommend Cat Fancy magazine. You can purchase individual copies at most of your chain bookstores, or at pet specialty shops like PetSmart. This fun magazine is published every month and not only highlights different breeds, but gives out lots of tips and hints about all kinds of cat and kitten care. A yearly subscription is around $15. The May issue did a great job on highlighting the Siberian breed!

Siberian Kitten Countdown!

We have about a week or so until Rosinka's first litter, and the excitement is building here! I'm trying my best to get her to love the birthing box I made for her, but I think she likes under my bed the best. We'll have to wait and see what happens here... I'm happy that our Queen Junona, also from the exceptional and very well respected Sibaris cattery in Moscow where Rosinka was born, will be here to help her through her first litter. And, of course, my golden retriever Cali will be here to assist too - she is almost as good with brand new kittens as mommy cat is!

Pre-reservations are closed for our spring litters, but depending on how many kittens arrive, we may have some availability for approved families. For information, please email me at info@washtabaysiberians.com.

Rosinka Kitten Announcement

I just realized I didnt make the official announcement here on our blog. Rosinka, our beatiful mini-mountain lion, is expecting her first litter. Her due date should be on or around March 22. She is being super affectionate right now, and cant get enough gentle belly rubs and snuggles with me. Here is a picture of our Rosinka when she was just a kitten herself. I cant wait to see her lovely babies. I'm expecting a very consistent litter, like Junona has, of wonderful traditional Siberians with a "wild" look. They should be just a bit warmer brown in color than Junona's kittens, but will overall look very similar.

Rosinka is due around March 22 - and we are so anxiously awaiting her first litter. In the meantime, here is a stunning picture of one of our older kittens, Junona is her mom. Best wishes, snuggles, head butts and purrs to everyone for a wonderful 2011 from Junona, Rosinka and Indigo!!

I just love this picture of our breeding cats. Even though it isnt a great picture, I think it shows the different personalities of our cats so well.

JUNONA (top left), our beautiful queen is our proper lady who takes care of everything in the house. She watches over everything to make sure things happen as they should, and is the worlds best mom because of that. She sees to it that her kittens are all brought up "right" and have brought so much happiness to our families.

ROSINKA (top right, sort of upside down) is our "Class Clown" and is the most silly, loving cat I've ever seen. She loves to play, cuddle, snuggle, and rarely doesnt come when I call. Her breeder in Moscow told me that Rosinka's mother is the cat in her whole cattery that is her favorite pet, and I can believe that, for sure. I cant even remember what our home was like without her. We are hoping to for her first litter this spring or summer.

INDIGO is our big boy who just cant be bothered with cameras and posing, and was really hard pressed to sit put instead of going outside to see if anything more interesting was going on out there. He is a man's man, for sure - just what you are looking for in a kitten daddy.

Here is a super cute picture I took yesterday. The kittens are growing so fast and are all super playful. Every once in a while, they will take a break from chasing each other, wrestling and whatnot to take a quick break. This girl likes to sit in my fluffy shoes, although from the way she has stuffed herself in there, I dont think she will be able to do that much longer... She gets an "A" for effort though! Siberian Kittens!!!

Our beautiful look-alike kittens are doing so well. Everyone is climbing around on everything, exploring, learning how to play with toys and of course becoming expert wrestlers and foot jumpers. They have all started on solid foods now, and have begun litter box training and some are pretty darn good with it already. I'm so proud of our kittens!!! :)

Baby Update

All of the kittens are doing well and we should have new pictures tomorrow. I was out today and didnt get back when we still had natural light, so picture taking will need to wait until tomorrow. Flash = closed/red eyes. :(

All of the kittens (4 girls and 1 boy) are doing great, and are exploring the living room as we speak. Rosinka especially is LOVING jumping with them and wrestling with them in such a fun, playful way. Mom Junona gets a little anxious with them not staying right by her and tries to corral them back to their nest, but she is just about to give up doing that - until the kittens all go to their new families, they pretty much take over everything here regardless of what I or Junona think.

We are so looking forward to the family visits coming up! Limited allergy testing for people thinking of a Siberian will be available until mid-December.

Come back tomorrow and see the new pictures, you will be so surprised on how much they have grown in just a few days!

I just realized I forgot to post here that Junona had her kittens VERY EARLY on Saturday - I've been doing most of the updates on Facebook lately. I'm so happy that we have 5 very healthy babies. We had one monster who held up the delivery a bit - I'm assuming that one is a boy, they are always causing trouble. :) Here are a few pictures of them at the grand age of 3 days. Welcome babies!

We are sitting here patiently (well, maybe not so much) wating for those darn kittens to arrive. Hopefully today or tomorrow we will have some bouncing "baby" news for everyone. Right now, we are just following momma around with her birthing box so it is ready at her first contraction. She seems overly irritated with me for doing that, so it probably isnt quite time yet... Junona is following the dog around everywhere, which is what she did last time the night before her kittens came, so my guess is tomorrow. Lets see if I'm right!

The Walking Basketball

These pictures were posted for one of our families who are of course very excited about their second Siberian kitten from us that should be arriving here any day now. As we all patiently wait for the kittens to arrive, they wanted to see what I meant by Junona's new nickname, "the walking basketball." I havent been able to get a good walking shot yet, but this should show a little bit about how things are around here these days. With the first picture, you cant really tell how round she is unless you know cats well and know that their sides dont go that high up when they lay down, but the second picture, although it is a bit blurry, it just screams basketball!

It is so rare that I actually have my camera nearby when cute stuff is happening around this house - and even rarer when I have batteries in them, and the fact that the batteries were charged, well, that is quite the trifecta! Blast from the Past

As many of you know, our big Siberian boy Indigo is not a fan of showing. Go figure, a cat not really liking to be around 250 other cats with loudspeakers blaring and strangers touching him constantly for 1-2 days... Indigo much prefers to be at home being pampered by his human mom, and playing with his other kitty and dog buddies.

This picture was graciously sent to us from Preston Smith who took those wonderful pictures of Rosinka. At Indigo's last show about a year ago, I tried to get some nice pictures taken of him. But, he was already flustered and would have none of it. I didnt realize it was Preston who was there with us. When he sent us Rosinka's pictures, he saw he had this picture and was so kind to send it to us as a wonderful surprise. Thank you so much Preston!

DID YOU KNOW? Indigo's father, European Champion (FIFe), World Champion (WCF) Jonathan Timange-Fialka from the Fialka cattery in St. Petersburg Russia was the first Siberian to receive the highest show honors from both FIFe and WCF. He was also named the BEST SIBERIAN CAT IN RUSSIA in 2004 by FIFe! We are so proud that Indigo is the father to all of the Washta Bay kittens.

Rosinka!

Apologies for being behind in blogging, it has been a super busy summer here. I have some wonderful pictures of our Rosinka taken by Preston Smith at a recent CFA show. She just turned 8 months old and is in her summer coat, but boy oh boy, even considering that, her coat is full and her tail is the best I've ever seen. Rosinka has personality plus and keeps the energy high in this house. I absolutely can not wait for her first litter (probably around the beginning of the year).

Camera Problems!

Apologies to everyone, I have a TON of wonderful pictures to share, but one of the kittens has run off with the cable for the camera. Tonight is time to tear apart the house night to find it! Hopefully can post some tonight. This litter has been something special with wonderful playful and sweet personalities! I really like how nice and defined their "tiger stripes" have been with our kittens. I think this pattern makes them look very wild which is my absolute favorite look in Siberians, and what my breeding program is currently producing.

I hope to post more pictures later today when I'm able to take a few more. 7 weeks old is actually a very difficult age to take pictures, they play and zoom around so much it is very time consuming to get a picture that isnt just a big ball of blurry fur. CFA Regional Awards Show

We just returned from a long trip to Southern Illinois for the CFA (Cat Fanciers Association) Midwest Regional Awards show where we showed Rosinka for the first time. I caught a couple of our Siberian kittens trying to take a nap after a fun allergy visit today. Super cute! For those of you who have met Rosinka already, you know she cant stand not to be the center of attention... She saw I was taking pictures, she had to jump right in and pose for the camera along with the babies. She is already quite the diva, even just being 5 months old!

Our Siberian kittens are one month old now, and are all doing great! Here is a picture of one of the boys, doing his best to pose for the camera, even though he is not quite sure what is going on around him... You can see in the pictures that his eyes are blue, that will change as he grows into more of a gold/green. His coat will change as he grows as well. To see how our kittens develop, please look at "Penny's Pages" on our website. She is a full older sister to him and their looks will resemble each other.

3 week old Siberian kittens, there is nothing cuter!!!

These Siberian kittens are about 3 weeks old now, another wonderful litter from Junona and Indigo. Below are pictures of some of the kittens - they all look so similar it is still difficult to tell them apart at this age. But, there is no denying that they are just as cute as can be!

Welcome Sibaris Rosinka of Washta Bay

Finally, our lovely Rosinka arrived yesterday from the Sibaris cattery in Moscow, the same breeder of Junona. We waited for almost 2 years to find such a girl, and it was well worth the wait! She is 4 months old now, so we will begin showing her as soon as we can. Check our website for our planned shows.

Big Sis Helping Out

One thing I just love about my Siberians is how well they get along with humans and other animals. Big sister Clairee helps mom out with the new kittens, and just loves it. Bathing and keeping newborns under control can be quite the task, and she has jumped right in to give mom some breathing room. Mom is now able to take some breaks and check out her favorite spots on her new fancy cat trees, knowing her kittens are being well taken care of.

Cutest Kittens Ever!

Junona's Siberian kittens are about 1 week old now, and just so darn cute. Their eyes are all starting to open, and they are all enjoying ear and chin rubs from their human. We are so proud of these babies! I havent been able to get any good individual pictures yet, at this age they stay together in one big furball and get a bit squirmy and squealy if they are separated from their mom and siblings. Junona's Kittens Update

This has been a great first week for the new babies. They are all very healthy, eating well and already dont seem to mind some attempts at grooming from their Golden Retriever babysitter. Junona is best friends with Cali and doesnt mind one bit when the dog sneaks a peak at the lovely Siberian kittens and "helps" with bathing them. The kittens eyes are just starting to open and I just cant wait to take pictures this weekend to share with everyone. We are so lucky with the beautiful kittens that Junona and Indigo have together! Indigo's Winter Coat

Here are some pictures I just took of Indigo (pappa cat) with his wonderful winter coat. I'm still amazed that even with all that hair he sheds very little (except when changing coats of course) and rarely has even the smallest mat.

Daddy Pics

Indigo's winter coat is starting to come in very nicely. He is the sire of this wonderful litter of kittens. Indigo has one of the best ruff's I've seen (yes, I am a broken record with that!) and at this time of the year it fills out even more and is incredibly impressive. He is not yet 2 years old, so will be continuing to grow and mature for a few years. He is a very large Siberian, and as his coat fills out during the winter, "wow" is about all you can say about him. And, to make it better (at least in my book) he is a big purr machine who loves to be petted and groomed.

They all have wonderful personalities that are just now starting to shine, and are just so darn cute. Cali and her Siberian kittens

I've heard of crazy cat ladies, but not crazy cat dogs... But, my dear Cali apparently is one of them. The kittens adore her as well, and follow her around almost like she is their mom, way too fun to watch! You cant really tell from the picture, but in the last picture, the boy she is gazing at is "makin' biscuits" on Cali's leg. True love!

The Eight is Enough Siberian Boys

Here are some of the cutest darn pictures of our Siberian kitten boys, David, Tommy and Nicholas, named after the characters on one of my favorite TV shows back in the day, Eight is Enough. You can start to see some very very subtle differences now that they are getting older, but who cares when they are this darn cute? :)

Our Boys

I just realized its been forever since I posed anything other than new kitten pictures!

Axl and Indigo are our two males, the fathers of our beautiful Siberian kittens. Today they actually spent a little bit of time inside for once--they just love being outside, no matter what the weather. These two are best buddies and often sleep together in one basket when they arent outside in their enclosure watching over everyones business on the farm. And, of course, Axl is in charge of grooming Indigo to make sure his stunning ruff stays so full and beautiful. Those of you who know Axl know he is the groomer of the entire household. No cat, kitten or dog will be improperly groomed if he has anything to say about it.

We just couldnt have asked for a better litter of kittens. All of them are super cute and very friendly, very well socialized already with people and of course their trusty dog pal. They are growing so fast, it is just amazing to watch.

Our 2 Week Old Siberian Kittens

Time sure does fly. The Eight is Enough kittens are a little over 2 weeks old already. Junona, our Siberian queen, has wonderfully consistent kittens in type, size, and looks, and as you can tell, this sure is one cute group of kittens. Their "babysitter" was by their side during the whole photo shoot - our dog sure enjoys being the little kittens. I was hoping to have individual picures out already, but they still look so very similar, I thought some good group pictures would be fun while they all still enjoy hanging out with each other. Siberian Kitten Totem Pole

I saw his wonderful opportunity for a picture and grabbed it! Here you see about 4 of the 8 "Eight is Enough" Siberian kittens we just had. They are piled next to each other, and I thought they really resembled a kitten totem pole. Now, they all enjoy being right next to each other all of the time, but that will be changing soon enough. Our new Siberian kittens are a little over a week old now, and are just starting to open their eyes. The group name for the cats will be "Eight is Enough," from one of my favorite shows from when I was a kid. And, trust me, eight kittens at once is definitely enough! :) Once they are a little older so I can tell them apart better and the gender is determined for them all, I will start posting their individual kitten pictures.

A few super cute pictures are below - this age is very, very difficult to get good pictures of them... Junona had a wonderfully consistent litter, all healthy brown mackerel tabbies, nice Siberian type, and quite similar in their looks. We have 1 or 2 kittens available at this time.

Junona's Siberian kittens have arrived!

Well, well. I expected a larger litter of Siberian kittens than we had with our last litter, but not eight (!)... We have opened up our reservation list today, and will have 2 or 3 kittens available. The kittens will have coloring very similar to their mother.

Junona had a very easy delivery, but it did seem to go on forever with so many kittens! All of are nice and healthy, which is great news. Junona is a great mom, and is juggling caring for all of the babies very well. We will be posting more pictures of the kittens soon, right now they are all just one big ball of fur hanging out with mom...

We have only about one more week until Junona has her second litter of Siberian kittens, and we are all very excited! She is starting her typical checking out of the house to decide where to have her babies. But... My guess is that she will end up trying to have them in my lap like she wanted to do with her first litter. The father of these babies is our beautiful big boy Indigo.

We are expecting these to be really wonderful kittens, both in Siberian type and of course personality. Junona and Indigo are both awesome cats and did well in their (and my) first show season. But, did you know that 3 of 4 grandparents of these kittens are European Champions (FIFe) and World Champions (WCF)? Those are the highest awards Siberians or any other type of cat can receive in their respective cat fancy organizations. Junona's mother, Fenya Rys-Ionessi from Sibaris Cattery in Moscow, is a truly exceptional Siberian and passed her traits on to Junona. Fenya received the title of "Distinguished Show Merit" in FIFe, meaning that she has actually won the "Best in Show" title at least 10 times - not an easy task, especially for a female cat.

Enough bragging, lets start thinking kittens!!!

Twin Cities Cat Fanciers Show, 09/26/09

We had a great time at the recent Cat Fanciers Association (CFA) cat show in the Minneapolis - St. Paul area (Minnesota). We met some wonderful people and our Siberian kitten Clairee had a great time showing herself off. This was her first show, mainly to gain show hall experience ~ all the people, new noises, and so many strange cats all around her. We were thrilled that she did make an allbreed final at such a very young age, receiving a 10th best kitten award. The unofficial show count listed 55 kittens. We are so proud of her!

The best thing is that she behaved wonderfully during the show and is completely relaxed in that atomsphere -- if she continues to develop well, she may have a nice show career ahead of her. Show Bathing

What all can be involved with preparing a Siberian cat or kitten for a show? Clairee's first show is coming up near Minneapolis, Minnesota in a few weeks and we have been working to adjust her to traveling and new environments. This will help her be as comfortable as possible in the rings. Some ways this part of training is done include taking her to cat-friendly establishments such as pet stores and other places so she can see new things and have new people play with her.

For cats to show well, they not only need to have good type, but they should also be very nicely groomed. Today we tried out a new shampoo to see how that works on her wonderful coat. With Siberians, you do not want their coat to be too soft. A coat of her coloring should have a nice, natural texture to it. Today, we tried a new shampoo that I think will work well for her. Just like with your own hair, it is difficult to find perfect product!

Few cats love a bath, but Clairee tolerates them better than the rest of my cats -- that will be a very good thing when it comes time for her big bath before the show. Below are pictures of Clairee drying herself off after the afternoon fun!

Holiday Babies Coming!

Great news!! We will be having a second litter of Siberian kittens this year, ready for their forever homes in time for the holidays. This was a very promising pairing between Junona and our big beautiful boy Indigo. We have a few families visiting this weekend, and then pre-reservations will be closed until the babies arrive. Depending on the size of her litter, a few kittens may become available. We arent planning for any more kittens until late spring/early summer 2010 so we can have some time to show our cats, relax, and "enjoy" the winter here in Minneapolis, Minnesota!

Show Training!

Clairee will be 4 months old soon, and will begin her show career here in the Minneapolis area on the 26th. We are doing some "training" to help her with the first show, but for the most part, like with most things, either you have it or you dont... We are probably all in agreement that there is no need for her to take a course in Posing 101, at least with that, she is a total natural.

Indigo just loves spending time outside in the boys enclosure so he can keep an eye out for any kind of monkey (or horse) business going on. With his Siberian triple coat, he will continue to spend a good deal of time outside, even during the harsh Minnesota winters.

He is still growing and maturing, and I expect him to develop into quite the magnificent cat! You cant see that much of his nice size and coat in these pictures since he is way to busy napping than to bother posing for the camera. But, especially in the first picture, you can see how regal he is, even in is his warm weather coat. A true Siberian!

Why paintings arent being finished...

She needs to be right by me when I'm painting and her objective in life is to supervise my artwork, walk on every canvas, bat around my paint tubes, and steal my brushes. The Man Cave

Clairee loves visiting and playing in the "Man Cave", which I have lovingly named the boys part of the house, where she can spend time with her dad and finace Indigo. For those of you who dont know about the Man Cave TV show, their slogan--targeted for men--is "Taking back the World, one Man Cave at a time!"

So, what exactly is a Man Cave? Man cave: n. A dedicated area of a house, such as a basement, workshop, or garage, where a man can be alone or socialize with his friends. The cat version I have created of a Man Cave is outfitted with an awesome handmade cat tree, lots of toys (we cant have many in the rest of the house because the dog takes them all!), lots of space filled with baskets, shelves, and all kinds of things cats enjoy - and this grows all the time. It also has direct access to the outdoor enclosure they love so much. Here are a few pictures of Clairee and her proud daddy Axl in Axl's favorite area in the indoor section of the Man Cave.

Clairee the Computer Kitty Strikes Again

I think I've figured out why my computer has been having some unique issues lately. Nothing like a kitten playing and sleeping on the keyboard to wreck havoc! You know, I really dont know why I bothered buying Clairee a nice kitty bed. Computers are apparently the best things on earth to stretch out and roll around on. Laptops and cardboard boxes rule in cat world!

Spuds Birthday Party

Spud and the other kittens went out for some fun adventures to celebrate their birthday and here are some good memories of the party. This was the first time that the kittens saw horses up close, so they were all wide-eyed and super interested in what was going on around them, not in posing for the camera... We started the day on some nifty benches over by the outdoor arena, and moved after a while to spend time with Axl in his outdoor enclosure where they could play with all kinds of butterflies and leaves, get some snuggles from Dad, and watch the birds and horses. Great fun for all!

Junona's babies are 8 weeks old now! Time flies! Here is a group shot on their favorite cat tree with their mom. Kittens, left to right, Truvy, Spud, Ouiser Boudreaux and Clairee. The easiest way to tell the boys and girls apart is that the girls are all showing off their nice red legs, you generally wont see torbie boys. Fun Fact: Torbies are thought to bring good luck in many cultures. All I know is that they sure do bring a lot of cuteness to the world!!!
